Regional Human Rights Training Course in Albania Empowers Youth Advocates

A regional Human Rights Education training course concluded successfully on 24 July 2024 at Hotel Mondial in Tirana. The programme was organised by Roma Versitas Albania in cooperation with the Council of Europe and gathered 25 participants from diverse professional backgrounds, including youth workers, students, human rights activists, and police officers.

Empowering youth for human rights

The training ran from April to July 2024 and aimed to strengthen participants’ capacity to promote and protect human rights. Key topics included cyberbullying, hate speech, racial profiling, and related forms of discrimination, based on the Council of Europe’s COMPASS manual and adapted to the Albanian context through interactive methods and case studies.

A diverse and engaged cohort

From 57 applicants, 25 participants were selected based on criteria such as gender balance and professional background. The group included 13 women and 7 men. Trainers included Council of Europe expert Mr. Liridon Shurdhani, alongside Mrs. Ersida Teliti and Mrs. Lorenca Bejko, specialists in non-formal education.

Key achievements and impact

Participants were encouraged to develop and implement human rights initiatives within their communities. The training supported the creation of advocacy ideas, strengthened networking among participants, and promoted the integration of human rights principles into education, public institutions, and youth work. Feedback highlighted the effectiveness of non-formal learning methods, with participants reporting improved understanding and stronger practical skills to address human rights challenges.

Looking ahead

Roma Versitas Albania will continue supporting participants in implementing their initiatives, including awareness campaigns and educational activities. Continued cooperation with the Council of Europe will further strengthen human rights education efforts in Albania.
